NYC Doorman From Bridgeport Dies In Tragic Shoveling Accident

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man died Thursday morning in a tragic shoveling accident on Manhattan's Upper East Side, according to multiple media reports.

Miguel Gonzalez, 59, a longtime doorman at an apartment building on East 93rd Street near 1st Avenue, slipped and fell down a short flight of stairs while shoveling, police told the New York Post. Gonzalez fell into a glass entryway and suffered severe cuts on his neck, throat and face, the New York Post said.  

Despite efforts by emergency personnel, the injuries were fatal and he was pronounced dead at a city hospital at about 10:30 a.m., the New York Post said.

Hector Figueroa, president of the 32BJ Union, issued the following staement on Gonzalez's death:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of doorman and 32BJ member Miguel Gonzalez, who passed away this morning while shoveling snow at the building where he worked for many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children and all those who knew and cared about him, including his co-workers and the residents of his building. Our union family will do all we can to support Miguel’s family in this difficult time. Our thoughts and prayers also go out to all members working hard to keep us safe during this blizzard and every day.”
