Malloy Warns Layoffs Are Likely For State Workers

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Without further arbitration of state employees' pensions and benefits by their unions, many layoffs are certain, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy told reporters Tuesday, according to a report by the Connecticut Post.

The governor did not say how many jobs would be slashed, though his administration in February indicated there would be thousands of job cuts if 33 state bargaining units would not agree to concessions similar to ones in 2011, said the Connecticut Post.

Malloy told reporters the cuts would happen by June 9, before the end of this fiscal year, which is June 30, the Connecticut Post reported.
