As the weather warms up, towns and cities will begin repaving roads and fixing potholes. While we all want smooth drives to work and school, the cost of paving programs can put a real dent in municipal budgets. Repairing our roads is important for driver, cyclist and pedestrian safety.
In the State Senate, I was able to secure funding for Connecticut municipalities under the Town Aid Road program. This money will provide relief to town and city budgets, so their paving programs can go further.
Locally that means an extra $1.3 million for Bridgeport, over $450,000 for Trumbull and over $350,000 for Monroe. While the bulk of this funding goes to road repaving, it can also be used for bridge maintenance, traffic signs and signals, and anything else that benefits public transportation.
Strengthening our transportation system is an important priority for me. I'm glad that towns and cities are getting more funding to meet these critical needs.
