A 52-year-old Bridgeport man was hit and killed by a dark green Toyota Camry which sped away and left the victim lying in the roadway.

The incident took place in Bridgeport around 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 17 at the intersection of East Main Street and Pulaski Street.

A witness to the crash told police that the pedestrian, identified as 52-year-old Rafael Davila, was bleeding from injuries sustained from the collision, and Camry drove away from the scene, said Capt. Lonnie Blackwell, of the Bridgeport Police.

Davila received medical attention from AMR, and he was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he later died, Blackwell said.

"The Bridgeport Police Department sends our thoughts and prayers to Rafael Davila’s family and friends," Blackwell said.

The Bridgeport Police Serious Crash Team was notified and responded to the crash scene. The scene was reconstructed, and video was obtained.

The Camry was located and towed to the Bridgeport Police Departments Traffic Division.

Anyone with information about the fatal crash is asked to contact Officer E. Quiles, at 475-422-6141, or utilize the Bridgeport Police Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS.
