Temperatures will plummet overnight, reaching lows in the upper teens to low 20s with wind-chill factors in the single digits, according to the National Weather Service.
And after the snow and rain showers Monday, patchy black ice may develop on untreated roads and walkways overnight. Any water or slush will freeze and could create dangerous black ice. Travelers late Monday and early Tuesday are advised to slow down and use caution.
Also, a freeze warning has been issued across the region from 8 p.m. Monday to 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The cold will impact sensitive plants, as these conditions will kill crops and other vegetation.
Rain and snow are expected before midnight, then turning to a chance of snow from midnight to about 2 a.m. Tuesday. With the chance of precipitation at around 90 percent, snow accumulation could be less than an inch.
Tuesday calls for a sunny day, with a high near 38 degrees, though wind chill values will remain low, between 10 and 20 degrees, and winds will pick up slightly.
The overnight skies will be mostly clear, with a low temperature around 22 degrees.
Clouds will increase on Wednesday, when temperatures will rise to near 46 degrees.
There is a 50 percent chance of showers Wednesday night when skies will be cloudy and steady temperature will be around 44 degrees.
Showers again will come on Thursday, with the mercury climbing up to near 58 degrees.
