Census: Fairfield Is Only County In Connecticut Showing Population Growth

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Fairfield County is the only county in Connecticut with a growing population, according to estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The population of Fairfield County expanded by 2,237 people, or 0.2 percent, between July 2014 and July 2015.

Fairfield was also the only county in the Nutmeg State to experience population growth for two years in a row.

The county's population of 948,053 residents is the largest in the state.

Connecticut's next most populous counties are:

Hartford County: 895,841 residents
New Haven County: 859,470
New London County: 271,863
Litchfield County: 183,603
Middlesex County: 164,063
Tolland County: 151,420
Windham County: 116,573

This information is based on annual population estimates for each of the nation’s counties, county equivalents, metropolitan statistical areas, and micropolitan statistical areas since the 2010 Census and up to July 1, 2015, the U.S. Census Bureau said.
