STAMFORD The National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, has named Armen Keteyian, of New Canaan, news correspondent with CBS News, as master of ceremonies for the 35th Annual MS Dinner of Champions. The dinner gala, presented this year by Starwood Capital Group and Univision Communications Inc., will be held at the Hilton Stamford Hotel on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in Stamford.
Keteyian is an 11-time Emmy Award winner and a CBS News correspondent based in New York City. He is also the lead correspondent for 60 Minutes Sports, which airs on Showtime, and a contributing correspondent for 60 Minutes.
A native of Michigan, Keteyian moved to California in pursuit of higher education. In 1976 he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from San Diego State University. He began his career as a sports and feature writer in San Diego before working with notable organizations such as Sports Illustrated, HBO Sports and ABC News where he served as a news correspondent for popular shows such as World News Tonight with Peter Jennings and Nightline.
Keteyian has authored or co-authored 10 books including the recently published, The System, an inside look at college football. His previous books include: Why You Crying?, The New York Times bestselling autobiography of actor/comedian George Lopez; Money Players: Days and Nights Inside the New NBA, chronicling the rise of the NBA under David Stern; and the New York Times bestseller, Raw Recruits.
The MS Dinner of Champions, first established in 1978, honors champions of the business and sports industry making a difference in their organizations and communities. Past honorees include Ernst & Young, IBM, Louis Dreyfus Commodities, Mutual of America, Pfizer and Xerox Corporation as well as both local and national sports figures Steve Young, Joe Namath, Frank Gifford, John Starks, Billie Jean King, Mary Lou Retton and Bobby Valentine.
Since its launch, the annual dinner gala has raised more than $6 million to support the fight against MS. Funds raised through National MS Society events, such as MS Dinner of Champions, ensure ongoing scientific research to find better treatments and a cure. These funds also provide for local programs and services offered by the Connecticut Chapter to those living with multiple sclerosis.
This years honorees include Barry S. Sternlicht, chairman and CEO, Starwood Capital Group, and Randy Falco, president and CEO, Univision Communications, Inc.
The 2013 MS Dinner of Champions features a V.I.P. cocktail reception, a silent auction and a spirited live auction.
