Bridgeport Resident Wins in St. Vincent’s Car Raffle

Judy Faustine stated, “I buy my brother-in-law a raffle ticket each year, in part because having a new car would simplify his car sharing and juggling situation.  But, even if Joseph never won, I always feel good about the $20 donation (the cost of the ticket) because it goes directly toward helping patients and their families who need it. “

By DEBORAH COX Bridgeport – Every year, Judy Faustine, a St. Vincent’s employee,  puts a St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound car raffle ticket into Joseph Machol’s  Christmas stocking.  The drawing for the annual car raffle takes place in April, so the suspense about whether Joseph has the winning ticket lasts four months.   Joseph, was genuinely surprised when he received the call from St. Vincent’s Foundation Executive Director, Lyn McCarthy, congratulating him for winning a brand new 2014 Nissan Juke SV.  He never really thought he’d ever win.

Lyn McCarthy commented, “It was heartwarming to see that he and his wife, Cathy, truly needed the car. He was so grateful and surprised.  I understand they love their new Nissan Juke SV and have already driven it to places like Brooklyn and Albany which they could not have gone in their other car for fear of breakdown.“

She added, “We at St. Vincent’s owe much gratitude to the D’Addario Auto Group and the William B. Meyer Transportation and Storage Company.  Each year, the two companies partner and donate the car to St. Vincent’s Foundation.  In addition to benefiting the winner who really needed a car, all the proceeds from the raffle are divided and go directly to St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound and to the D’Addario Hypertension  Fund at St. Vincent’s to help patients and their families who are struggling with either cancer or hypertension.  The generosity of these two companies and all the people who purchased tickets in support of the cause has benefited thousands of people in our community over the years.”
