“With frigid temperatures, snow and wind expected to impact our region this weekend, I want to make sure everyone who needs shelter during the day or night in Bridgeport knows they will have a warm place to go and a warm bed to sleep in,” said Ganim.
“We want to make sure everyone who needs a place to go will start making plans now. The cold weather protocol is now activated and will be in effect through Monday morning.”
All Bridgeport public library branches and the Greater Bridgeport Transit Terminal will be open during the day as warming centers. Public library branches will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Here are the addresses:
- Main Branch – 925 Broad St.
- Black Rock Branch – 2705 Fairfield Ave.
- Newfield Branch – 1230 Stratford Ave.
- North Branch – 3455 Madison Ave.
- Old Mill Green Branch – 1677 E. Main St.
The GBT terminal at 710 Water St. will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday
For anyone in need of shelter overnight, the United Congregational Church at 877 Park Ave. will be available. To register for that location, people can either arrive at the Fairfield Apartments on 1062 Fairfield Ave. from 4 to 8:30 p.m. or arrive at the church before 9 p.m.
After 9 p.m., those in need of shelter can go directly to Prospect House at 392 Prospect St. or call 211 to be put into the overflow shelter at United Congregational Church. The church does not accept walk-ins without going through intake at either the Fairfield Apartments or Prospect House.
