Bridgeport Man Charged In Fatal Heroin Overdose Of Monroe Man

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A Bridgeport man was charged with multiple drug counts Wednesday stemming from the fatal heroin overdose of a Monroe man, according to U.S. Attorney for Connecticut Deirdre M. Daly.

Monroe Police and emergency medical personnel responded to a Monroe home on Nov. 23 on a report of a suspected drug overdose.

At the scene, responders found an unresponsive 37-year-old male lying on the floor. He was pronounced deceased.

Investigators seized the victim’s cellphone, multiple folds of suspected heroin, and other items, and concluded that the man had purchased heroin from Careem Bently, 33, in the late evening of Nov. 22, Daly said.

Bentley was charged with possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin, and conspiracy to distribute narcotics. Both offenses carry a maximum term of 20 years in prison.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and Monroe Police Department.

The Tactical Diversion Squad includes participants from the New Haven, Hamden, Greenwich, Shelton, Bristol, Vernon, Wilton, Milford, Monroe, Fairfield and Manchester Police Departments, and the Connecticut State Police.
