Bridgeport Construction Site Shooter Sentenced To 45 Years

BRIDGEPORT — A man convicted of shooting a construction worker in Bridgeport in 2015 was sentenced to 45 years in prison last week, according to the Connecticut Post.

Gregory Weathers, 33, was found guilty in December of several charges, including murder, criminal possession of a firearm, theft of a firearm and carrying a pistol without a permit. He was facing 75 years in prison, but a three-judge panel sentenced him to only 45 years due to his mental health problems and remorsefulness, according the the Connecticut Post.

Weathers' wife reportedly spoke in court during his sentencing, telling the judges that he "was just having a bad day," the Connecticut Post reported.

Weathers had approached the road work site March 26, 2015 on Chopsey Hill Road and asked about job. When told to apply at the office, Weathers felt he had been rebuffed and returned with a gun, shooting Jose Araujo, 31, several times, police said.
