"We are monitoring this winter weather diligently, and because of the timing of this storm, I am calling for the partial activation of the state Emergency Operations Center at midnight tonight to better coordinate rapid response to any problems that may arise during Friday morning's commute," Malloy said.
"Different areas of the state are currently forecast to see different levels of snowfall. I am asking motorists to exercise caution and give themselves extra time to get to their destination."
Fairfield County is under a Winter Weather Advisory from midnight until noon Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Thursday evening, the forecast was calling for 4 to 6 inches of snow across Fairfield County with winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts of up to 30 mph.
Falling and blowing snow will limit visibility for drivers and create hazardous driving conditions.
Temperatures will fall to the lower 30s.
The storm will begin as rain at about midnight, shifting to snow overnight and continuing through all of Friday morning.
"We are urging motorists to be cautious during their morning commutes," Malloy said. "We encourage everyone to be safe, allow extra time to travel to and from work, and reduce speeds as conditions warrant."
