The grant from the charitable giving arm of People’s United Bank supports the zoo’s program. It is designed for high school students to work alongside field biologists and study the role of zoos in conservation and education.
The corps accepts applications from students through Jan. 15 and yearlong training begins in February. The zoo is currently accepting applications for 2018.
The foundation has awarded 10 grants totaling $220,000 to the zoo since 2007.
“We are thrilled to continue our support of the Beardsley Zoo and to help facilitate student understanding of the importance of wildlife conservation and the role these sometimes endangered animals play within our ecosystem,” said Karen Galbo, executive director of the People’s United Community Foundation.
