When Rick and Michele Torres announced that their Harborview Market, a favorite neighborhood hangout, would be open at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday — blizzard or no blizzard — they didn’t know what to expect.
But by 8:30 a.m., they had to call in more staff to cover the growing breakfast crowd.
“We did have one group come in with their champagne and order orange juice,” said Michele Torres, laughing. “There are more [customers] than I would have thought.”
The go-to breakfast-and-lunch spot planned to be open until about 2 p.m., offering its signature croissants and muffins, tasty sandwiches and salads and its famous oversized cookies to those willing to brave the roaring winds and drifting snow.
Outside the weather was downright frightful, with snow giving way to driving sleet by mid-morning.
The National Weather Service expected the snow and sleet to continue until 3 p.m., followed by a nasty mix of rain, snow and more sleet, which could be heavy at times.
Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation expectations were lowered to 3 to 7 inches, with another half inch Tuesday night.
