Twins and Culinary Dynamos Judy Vig, of Monroe, and Joy Paoletti of Trumbull, visited MLC to share cookies and talk cooking customs. Colombia, Mexico and Puerto Rico were some of the locales on their "sweet" agenda.
The mission of MLC is to provide literacy and life skills training to low-income women. The need for women's literacy education is striking. Consider the following statistics:
- 781 million people in the world are illiterate; 64 percent of them are women.
- 36 million Americans can’t read. Many who can, read below the sixth-grade level.
- One out of every five women in Bridgeport does not have a high school diploma.
- Half of all Bridgeport families speak a language other than English at home.
The event was live-streamed on Facebook and broadcast by Norwalk-based Hoopla-Ha-Only Good News.
