The event is part of a larger initiative run by Fairfield County's Community Foundation to encourage donors to support their favorite Fairfield County nonprofit. LifeBridge is participating and asking everyone to help support its programs with a gift. The number of donors is just as important as the amount of their gifts; organizations that have the most contributions can win additional cash awards from the Foundation.
"Every individual donation is really important," said Butch Trischman, Fairfield resident and chairman of LifeBridge's board of directors, who had the idea for a gathering to celebrate and promote Giving Day. "We believe in the motto "give where you live.'"
The two-hour event is open to the public and anyone who makes a gift to LifeBridge on Giving Day will be thanked with a voucher for a free beer or soft drink.
"We thought a party at the Castle would be a great way to have some fun and prompt some generous donations," said Bob Filotei, a LifeBridge Board member and Black Rock resident. Anyone who comes to the Castle between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. and shows proof of their donation will receive a heartfelt "thanks" and a free drink voucher.
"We're looking to make people more aware of all the great things LifeBridge does for low-income people in the community and support the organization," Filotei said. The Castle On Post, which had its grand opening in August last year, is owned by Patrick Clyne, former owner of Black Rock Castle, and Kevin O'Halloran.
The event will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Castle On Post, 222 Post Rd., in Fairfield.
LifeBridge, formerly known as FSW Inc., is one of the oldest and largest social service agencies in Bridgeport; it helps over 17,000 individuals and families every year to become self-sufficient.
