Bridgeport Vigil Delivers Message To Orlando: 'You Are Not Alone'

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim joined members of the groups YANA (You Are Not Alone) and PPOW (Powerful Praying Outstanding Women) on Wednesday for a vigil to remember the victims of a mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando and to speak out against gun violence and hate.

The vigil was held in front of the Margaret Morton Government Center.

Speakers included Ganim, evangelist Tressa Peele of PPOW, Nicole Matthews of YANA, YANA founder Dawn Spearman, Allison Sloan, and Pastor Stallworth of the East End Baptist Church of Bridgeport.

You Are Not Alone is a group of mothers who have lost children through violence.

"We need Orlando to know we are with them," Peele told Daily Voice. "We share in their pain, their loss. ... We're victims of violence in our own city, and we want them to know they're not alone."

A lone gunman killed 49 people and injured more than 50 in an attack on a gay nightclub over the weekend in Orlando, Fla., in the deadliest shooting in U.S. history.
