The April 30 fundraiser was at Brooklawn Country Club in Fairfield and included a silent auction. Nearly 200 guests attended. The highlight of the event was a dance contest featuring hospital staff members and volunteers teamed with professional dancers from the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Southport.
Auxiliary member Maria Watson, of Easton, and her dance partner Henry won the contest. Judges awarded them extra points beyond the top score of 45 because they were so impressed by their performance.
Other participants included surgeons Kenneth Lipow, of Fairfield, and Scott Thornton, of Trumbull; executive director of Clinical Operations Gina Calder, of New Haven; Rita Crispano, of Monroe, volunteer in the auxiliary’s Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet at the hospital; and operating room nurse Alida Shea, of Newtown.
“Not only was it an enjoyable event but we also surpassed all our goals,” said auxiliary president Bonnie Molloy of Fairfield, who co-chaired the gala with Mary Ellen Bertini, of Stratford, and Amparo Castillo, of Monroe.
Proceeds from the gala will enable the all-volunteer auxiliary to support an outpatient surgery waiting room at the Park Avenue Medical Center in Trumbull, the Dr. Tom Kennedy Toy Closet at the hospital, nursing scholarships, equipment for Ahlbin Rehabilitation Centers and grants to benefit the well-being of patients.
The gala also served as a welcoming event for the physicians of PriMed, the large multispecialty medical group that joined with Northeast Medical Group to affiliate with Bridgeport Hospital last year.
