“We’re in the time of gratitude at Thanksgiving,” said Health Director Martiza Bond, overseeing the annual distribution.
City workers had already donated to about 60 vets in the first 20 minutes of the distribution. They expected to serve about 200 vets and their families.
“This is wonderful,” said Mark Wildman, who volunteered to serve in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
WIldman said he would share the turkey, fresh vegetables and other fixings with his sisters when he goes to visit with them Thursday.
Mayor Joe Ganim stopped by the take a tour of the distribution, which Veterans Affairs Director Milta Feliciano said has been going on for about 15 years.
The program is funded through the city and a partnership with Connecticut Food Bank.
