These classes are held Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:45 p.m. at the continuing care retirement community, which is located at 3030 Park Ave. on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

The class is led by Cindy McGuire, The Watermark’s fitness director, who designed a special program of balance and strengthening exercises that specifically target muscles sometimes affected by Parkinson’s.

She focuses on large muscles groups initially, such as the legs and back and adds light weights and balls for upper body strength and endurance. All of the movements done will assist in improving balance as well as flexibility and stamina.

McGuire, a certified member of the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, has nearly three decades of experience in the fitness industry and has been with The Watermark since 2008. She holds a bachelor's degree in recreation and leisure education from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s in biology with a concentration in nutrition from the University of Bridgeport.

Due to a limited number of spaces, reservations and a small participation fee are required. To RSVP, contact McGuire at 203-373-6108.
