Connecticut Ranks As Third Best State To Have A Baby

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — With August being one of the most popular months for newborn arrival in the U.S. and Americans paying the most expensive birthing costs in the world, the personal-finance website WalletHub took an in-depth look at 2016’s "Best and Worst States to Have a Baby" and ranked Connecticut third overall.

To give expectant parents an idea of the delivery costs, health-care accessibility and baby-friendliness of each state, WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 17 metrics. The data set ranges from “hospital Caesarean-delivery charges” to “annual average infant-care costs” to “number of pediatricians per capita.”

Connecticut finished just behind Vermont and Maine and ahead of Minnesota and New Hampshire rounding out the top-five. Neighboring Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island New Jersey and New York finished eighth, 18th, 38th and 48th respectively.

12th – Infant-Mortality Rate
21st – Rate of Low Birth-Weight
11th – Number of Midwives & OB-GYNs per Capita
Fifth – Number of Pediatricians & Family Doctors per Capita
15th – Number of Child-Care Centers per Capita
Second – ‘Parental Leave Policy’ Score
First – Percentage of Nationally Accredited Child Care Centers
