Bridgeport Snags 'Top Foodie' Ranking In New Report

Bridgeport, Conn., edged out New York City as one of the top foodie cities in the United States, according to a new report by Infogroup.

The organization did a detailed ranking of culinary cities with Bridgeport tying with Santa Cruz, Calif., at No.2 . Manhattan came in ninth.

According to Infogroup, the results are as follows:

1. San Francisco, Calif.
2. Santa Cruz, Calif., and Bridgeport, Conn.
4. Barnstable, Mass.
5. Ocean City, N.J.
6. Boulder, Colo.
7. Santa Fe, N.M.
8. Trenton, N.J.
9. New York City, N.Y.
10. Santa Rosa, Calif.

Infogroup measured six indicators from its verified business database of more than 17 million records and consumer database of more than 235 individual records to calculate the highest "foodie scores."

The "eating in" indicators were a TargetReady Model pinpointing a preference of cooking for fun among consumers, identifying high-end, specialty and organic grocers per 10,000 residents and measuring the percentage of high-end, specialty and organic grocers.

Infogroup also used the "dining out" indicators of a model demonstrating consumers' propensity to patron fine dining restaurants over fast food or family dining chains, single location restaurants per 10,000 residents and percentage of restaurants that are single location.
