Wheeler Parker, Jr., Emmett Tills cousin and near witness to his murder, will speak about his cousins death and the American Civil Rights Movement from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, February 20. The Black History Month event will be held at the Arnold Bernhard Center, University of Bridgeport, 84 Iranistan Avenue.
Till was 14 years old in 1955 when he was murdered in Mississippi for flirting with a white woman. Considered one of the most heinous crimes in U.S. history, Tills murder galvanized the American Civil Rights Movement. Mr. Parker will be joined by Airickca Gordon-Taylor, cousin of and director of the Mamie Till-Mobley Memorial Foundation, following the documentary, The Untold Story of Emmett Till.
The event and a closing reception are free and open to the public.
