Bridgeport's Watermark Recognizes Residents For Teacher Appreciation Day

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Watermark at 3030 Park announced 20 residents who were recently recognized for their outstanding efforts in education, as part of the senior living community’s first-ever Teacher Recognition Tea, in honor of National Teacher Appreciation Day, May 5.

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and Bridgeport City Council President Tom McCarthy both attended the tea, and congratulated residents on their commitment to education.

Honorees were presented with special certificates to celebrate and reward their outstanding work and lifelong dedication in education: 

  • Geraldine Johnson, Bridgeport’s first African-American and female superintendent of schools, who served from 1976 to 1981. Throughout her decades-long career, Johnson also served as assistant superintendent, a principal and an elementary and middle school teacher within the Bridgeport Public School System. 
  • Eugene Scoran was an associate professor of chemistry at Bridgeport Engineering Institute from 1966 to 1992 and a chemistry teacher at Greenwich High School from 1970 to 1996. Scoran currently serves as an adjunct professor of chemistry at Fairfield University. In addition, he has been working as a substitute teacher since 1996 for Fairfield Public Schools, Greens Farms Academy and the Unquowa School. 
  • Barbara Buxton is a former economics teacher and assistant principal of Bassick High School in Bridgeport. In addition to her teaching career, Barbara has also written inspirational work entitled “I am a Teacher.” 

“Many of the residents we honored are living legacies of how we can influence and change the world,” said Marlane Argianas, Resident Services Coordinator.

“We, at the Watermark at 3030 Park, are inspired by our talented residents on a daily basis and wanted to present each of the individuals with a token of gratitude for the years of service they have contributed to education and our future generations.”
