Bridgeport's own Oh, Cassius to rock out at Campfire Outdoor Adventure and Music Show in Lakewood, PA

By ROB SULLIVAN Sure, you can catch Bridgeport’s Oh, Cassius! Playing the occasional Sunday morning brunch set at Harborview Market in the Black Rock section of the Park City, but if you do, treasure the moment because there is a good chance those gigs may be in the rearview mirror for the talented band before too long. Following their smash debut of their new EP, “Ides of March” at the Fairfield Theater Company on July 17th, the talented songwriting duo of Meredith DiMenna and John Torres are looking for that break out moment. Such a moment could come this weekend as the locals will be heading to the Keystone State to perform at the Campfire Outdoor Adventure and Music Show in Lakewood, Pennsylvania. Needless to say, Oh, Cassius is delighted with the opportunity to play at such a prestigious event. DiMenna told the Bridgeport Banner how the opportunity came about. “John's friend Stephen Scholz was working with the festival somehow and he let them know about us. Steve Kops, one of the founders, really fell in love with the song 'Carpenter' that John wrote and made a beautiful video for,” she explained. “They came down to see us at the Walrus and Carpenter in Bridgeport and from there, they decided to add us to the festival schedule.” The Campfire Outdoor Adventure and Music Festival is a three-day weekend escape that strives to revive the atmosphere and nostalgia of summer camp and is held on Labor Day weekend, August 29, 30, and 31. The festival’s website, www.campfirefestival.com, describes the event as “combining exciting recreation and exceptional hospitality with an intimate music festival atmosphere, Campfire is a high-value experience for your inner kid.” “This is our first big festival show,” said DiMenna. “We are playing on the main stage with our full band and it’s only our second full band show so there’s a lot of excitement for us about all of that. We’re also really looking forward to the setting and the activities. It looks like there are so many fun things to do; it will be a great way to end the summer.” When catching an Oh, Cassius! Show at the Harborview, Walrus and Carpenter or FTC, the audience usually is familiar with the tunes being played by the band. At the Campfire Festival, Torres, DiMenna and the full band will be reaching out to an entirely new audience. “We both love to play for new people,” noted DiMenna. “ Of course, we can’t wait for the day when people know our music and sing along with us but for now, the opportunity to play for a large audience and expose people to our music is exactly the kind of challenge we want.” Oh, Cassius will be taking the main stage at the Campfire Festival on Saturday at 4 p.m. Among the other bands performing at this year’s campfire Festival are Langhorne Slim & The Law, Delta Blues, Lake Street Dine, Amy Helm and the Handsome Strangers, Ballroom Thieves, Brothers McCann, The Silks, Joe Fletcher and The Wrong Reasons, Business Casual Disco and The lawsuits, to name a few.
