Bridgeport Library Presents 'When Cotton Was King' For Black History Month

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Bridgeport Public Library system will offer an interactive Black History Month presentation at its main location and several branches this month.

Come celebrate Black History Month with Pearlye Sams Allen's program "When Cotton Was King," which highlights the importance of the cotton cash crop to Colonial American and the major role enslaved African people played in that economy.

Audience members will be invited to participate in this interactive program. Learn how the popularity of cotton production led to slavery and its impact on modern America.

The schedule for the program this month is as follows:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 16, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Black Rock Branch
  • Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2 to 3 p.m., Newfield Branch
  • Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2 to 3 p.m., Old Mill Green Branch 

The exciting, interactive program is appropriate for all ages.
