Mayor Joe Ganim, who has declared October Second Chance Awareness Month in the city, was joined by Career Resources Inc. and The WorkPlace in welcoming both prospective employees and the more than 55 employers looking for new staff.
“This job fair is a tremendous opportunity for job seekers, including those who may have made a mistake in their past,” said Ganim, who was convicted of federal felony corruption charges after his first stint as mayor in 2003.
“It’s not easy to ask for a second chance. I am a second chance mayor and, through my example, my hope is that prospective employers can see someone who has accepted the help and good graces of others to take a step forward.”
Employers at the fair ran the gamut from the U.S. Marine Corps to Easter Seals Goodwill Industries to Subway.
The first hour was set aside for “re-entry individuals” to meet with potential employers and employment agencies, but many of those in attendance were simply looking for a new position.
