The unique establishment, which offers a little bit of everything, has moved about a half-mile to a new location 170 Post Road in Fairfield. Owner Christine Cali describes the new space as “tremendous.”
Cali, a certified appraiser and member of the New England Appraisers Association, established the store in 1994. It is a unique combination of a jewelry store, consignment shop, and almost anything else you can name.
A consumer can stop by Cali’s store and get their watch repaired, purchase an antique chair or a doll and play with the owner’s cat. In short, All That Glitters is a place where imaginations can run wild.
Some of the different types of items a shopper can find include military items, fur coats, coins and swords. Cali also purchases items and manages estate sales from the store.
When asked to explain her success, Cali said, “I took the GIA Diamond grading course about 25 years ago, and I have been a jeweler for 30 years. I have dealt in antiques for at least that time.”
She also noted that one of the most important aspects of her business is one of the least visible: estate sales.
“I have been called in by lawyers and estates to evaluate and price contents of bank faults for families,” Cali said. ”I have conducted estate sales. Most importantly I don't owe anyone a penny. Honesty and integrity is a very important rule I live by.”
Another key component to All That Glitters is watch batteries. A customer can have a watch battery replaced for a mere $6, probably one of the cheapest prices to be found in Fairfield County.
