Edwin Sinclair, 41, of Wallingford, was killed Monday morning, Aug. 24, when loose rocks fell from a cliff at Haynes Quarry in Seymour. Sinclair was operating heavy machinery near the base of the quarry, authorities said.
Police said workers were not conducting any blasting when the rocks fell.
Sinclair leaves behind his fiancée, Danielle Peregrim, and a child.
As investigators work to determine what happened, Sinclair’s friends and loved ones are sharing memories of the joy he brought into their lives. Dozens have posted memorials on social media.
“Rest in peace, Ed Sinclair. You were one of the best people I knew," Zak Crevier posted on Facebook. "You lit up a room and always made everyone laugh. You were taken too early, and I'm at a loss for words."
Sinclair’s brother, Dan Sinclair, created a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs and support the family while they grieve.
“This loss has been heartbreaking for everyone who knew and loved him, and the pain his family is carrying right now is impossible to put into words,” the fundraiser said.
The campaign had raised more than $10,000 as of Thursday morning.
“As they try to process this sudden tragedy, they are also facing the heavy financial burden that comes with it,” the fundraiser said.
The fatal workplace incident remains under investigation. Seymour police are working with Connecticut State Police, the Seymour fire marshal’s office, and the Connecticut Department of Labor’s Division of Occupational Safety and Health, known as CONN-OSHA.
