Brayden Drobish, 25, of Wallingford, was arrested following a Tuesday, Oct. 6, attack around 10 p.m. Holiday Cinemas at 970 North Colony Road in Wallingford, authorities said.
The confrontation began after Drobish stepped outside for a cigarette and wanted to return to the theater, police said. The cinema did not allow him to re-enter.
Security staff told him to leave. Police said he ignored them and tried to get back into the theater while smoking indoors.
A fight broke out when security intervened. During the struggle, Drobish threatened to stab the guard, then tried to do so with a pocketknife, police said.
A nearby witness disarmed him, ending the fight. Drobish then left the cinema, according to police.
Officers arrived as his vehicle pulled out of the parking lot. They stopped him heading east on Barnes Road and arrested him.
The guard suffered minor cuts to the head and received treatment at the scene.
Police charged Drobish with second-degree assault, second-degree breach of peace, and carrying a dangerous weapon. He was released after posting a $50,000 bond, police said.
