The grand opening for the store at 46 Skiff St. is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 5. The new location replaces the more than 9,000-square-foot former LA Fitness building that has sat empty for years and is located across the street from the popular Marketplace at Hamden shopping center.
The store opens at 9 a.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 8:50 a.m. The company said in a press release that the new location will employ about 40 people.
Trader Joe's is growing its footprint in Connecticut. The grocery store chain opened another location in Shelton in December.
The Hamden location will participate in Trader Joe's Neighborhood Shares Program, which donates 100% of unsold products to local nonprofit and community groups.
The Hamden Trader Joe's is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.
