Mark Reginald Melton, 34, was arrested in Washington, DC, weeks after investigators say he followed a man into the restroom at The Angry Jerk in Silver Spring and stabbed him multiple times, Montgomery County Police officials announced on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
The victim was left fighting for his life.
The attack happened around 10:34 p.m. on Friday, July 10, at the restaurant in the 8200 block of Georgia Avenue, where investigators say Melton walked into the men's bathroom, attacked the victim, then disappeared before officers arrived.
Police described the injuries as life-threatening at the time of the stabbing.
Detectives reviewed the business’s surveillance footage and obtained a description of the man.
During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Melton, of no fixed address.
A warrant was obtained charging Melton with first-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, and related offenses.
No motive for the stabbing has been identified.
Melton was arrested in DC by the US Marshals Capital Area Regional Task Force. He's being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
