Saifuddin Abdus-Samad, 56, of Hempstead, was arrested in Long Beach on Thursday, Oct. 8, following the attack last month, the Nassau County Police Department said.
Abdus-Samad entered the BP gas station at 2 Sunrise Highway in Rockville Centre on Monday, Sept. 14, around 3:45 a.m. and demanded money from the register, investigators said.
When the worker refused, Abdus-Samad struck him in the face with a knife, causing a cut, police said. He then took cash from the register and fled on foot, authorities said.
The employee was taken by a Nassau County police ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation, police said.
Following an extensive investigation, cops located Abdus-Samad in Long Beach on Thursday morning and took him into custody, authorities said.
He was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery and one count of first-degree assault, police said. His arraignment was scheduled in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Abdus-Samad was also arrested in January 2026 on gun and drug possession charges in Westbury, according to Nassau County police. In that case, he pleaded guilty to fourth-degree weapons possession and seventh-degree cocaine possession, according to online court records. His sentencing hearing is set for Thursday, Nov. 5.
