The Bear Mountain Bridge was temporarily closed on Thursday, Jan. 29, as authorities searched for a person who jumped from the structure and was later found dead.
The incident began just before 1 p.m. on Thursday, when New York State Police and other first responders arrived at the bridge for a report of a possible jumper, according to Trooper Krystal Paolicelli.
The person who jumped was found dead a short time later, Paolicelli added.
The incident caused both directions of the bridge to temporarily close to traffic as authorities responded to the scene. It has reopened as of 3:35 p.m. on Thursday.
More information, including the person's name, has been released pending notification of their family.
