Mohammed Gubari, 28, must serve 12 and a half years behind bars, the Albany County District Attorney’s office said. After his release, he’ll be on probation for 20 years and must register as a sex offender, prosecutors said.
“I hope you will come to your senses and finally realize what you did is wrong … and that no child should go through what I went through,” the teenage victim told Gubari at his sentencing hearing.
Gubari, of Albany, was driving on Central Avenue on Feb. 21, 2025, when he spotted two girls, ages 17 and 14, walking along the road and engaged them in conversation, investigators said. Both girls were residents at the St. Anne Institute.
As the girls walked off, Gubari followed them and then convinced them to get into his car, authorities said. He then drove to a dark parking lot and moved to the backseat of the vehicle, prosecutors said.
When Gubari attacked the 14-year-old girl, she attempted to physically fight him off, but he continued his assault, investigators said. He was convicted of first- and second-degree rape in an October 2025 jury trial.
