Keyonna Waddell, 35, got 18 years behind bars and five years of probation for the terrifying attack, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said.
Waddell, of Deer Park, got into an argument with her boyfriend at his apartment on March 22, 2024, according to investigators. The man left the apartment after the blow-up and told Waddell to do the same, police said.
When the man returned, he saw no sign of Waddell, assumed she had left, and went to sleep, authorities said. However, he later woke to a hissing sound and saw what appeared to be a stick of dynamite, investigators said.
The man picked up the item to throw it out the window, but it detonated in his hand, prosecutors said. He then sprinted outside and saw Waddell running away, according to the district attorney’s office.
First responders took the man to Nassau University Medical Center, where the remainder of his hand and part of his arm were amputated. Waddell had previously made threats to hurt the man with dynamite, according to investigators.
Waddell was convicted Friday, April 24 on counts of first-degree assault and first-degree weapons possession. She faced a maximum of 25 years in prison.
