The 59-year-old Upper Marlboro man put deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff's Office through their paces after refusing to stop and striking a cruiser in the process.
Deputies responded to a complaint involving a Lexus that was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Southern Maryland Boulevard in Owings.
Deputies quickly located Roach's vehicle in the area of Route 4 and Town Center Boulevard, where they attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
Roach was having none of that.
It is alleged that Roach sped away and continued driving recklessly, nearly striking several other vehicles head-on.
Deputies deployed stop sticks, which struck the vehicle’s tires, but Roach continued into Anne Arundel County. Deputies then conducted a PIT maneuver in the area of West Bay Front Road in Lothian, temporarily disabling the vehicle.
Roach continued attempting to operate the vehicle and struck a marked patrol vehicle. He then failed to comply with multiple commands and was removed from the vehicle and taken into custody, officials said.
Things somehow got worse for Roach from there.
Deputies later determined that Roach's driver's license was suspended and found several empty liquor bottles in and near the vehicle.
Roach was arrested and charged with:
- Resisting or interfering with arrest;
- Second-degree assault;
- Obstructing and hindering;
- Malicious destruction of property valued at over $1,000;
- DWI;
- Negligent driving;
- Multiple traffic-related offenses.
No details about his next court appearance were released by the sheriff's office.
