Jonathan Maynard, 52, drowned Wednesday, July 9, at Charge Pond in Myles Standish State Forest. Plymouth Police responded to a report of a possible drowning shortly after 2 p.m. Search efforts continued until the victim was found at about 3:45 p.m. in water measuring between 17 and 19 feet deep.

He was pronounced dead a short time later.

His son, Jordan Maynard, created a GoFundMe campaign to help cover Maynard's funeral costs and monthly expenses.

Jordan said his dad was a special man.

"He was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and someone who truly loved life," Jordan Maynard wrote. "He found peace in the outdoors, whether he was hiking, fishing, or simply enjoying a walk in nature. He was a lifelong Boston Bruins and San Francisco 49ers fan, and he also loved spending time playing his favorite video games. More than anything, he cherished the time he spent with his family."

The campaign has raised $4,700 of its $6,000 goal as of Monday afternoon from nearly 70 donors.

The cause of Jonathan Maynard's death remains under investigation.
