Jason D. Mann, of Darien, was arrested following the Tuesday, Sept. 15, robbery at the Exxon station at 1358 Post Road in Darien, authorities said.
The clerk told police that the robber entered the store around 12:30 p.m., waved a handgun, and demanded money and cigarettes. He ran away with more than $3,000 and 20 packs of cigarettes.
He then jumped on his getaway e-bike and sped off west on Post Road.
Officers rushed to the area but could not catch him. The security camera, though, had captured a clear picture of his bike and clothing.
Two days later, an officer noticed a vehicle near Post Road and Corbin Drive. It had an equipment violation, police said.
The officer stopped it around 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 17. A license plate check showed the registered owner had an active arrest warrant from Derby.
During the stop, officers spotted drug paraphernalia and improperly packaged medication, according to police.
Then they noticed something else.
As officers took the suspect into custody, they found clothing and footwear that matched the description from the Exxon robbery.
Detectives obtained warrants to search the vehicle and the suspect’s Darien home. They carried out both searches later that day.
Police said they found an e-bike, a firearm, and clothing matching the items used in the robbery.
Police did not release the charges listed in that warrant or details about Mann’s next court appearance.
