The 51-year-old Enfield Department of Public Works employee was killed Friday, Sept. 12, after a car crashed into him as he worked near town hall. The driver was also seriously hurt. Police are investigating the crash.

He leaves behind two sons and a wife of 20 years. The couple renewed their vows in Jamaica earlier this summer, his obituary said.

A candlelight vigil was held over the weekend, and memorials have flooded social media from his loved ones, town leaders, and state senators. Every condolence mentioned Nickerson's unwavering dedication to his family and friends.

"... Genuinely the best guy I’ve ever met," Morgan Tilley posted on Facebook. "I have had the pleasure of knowing the Nickersons for quite some time, and I’m blessed to say they have been like my second family. Jamie was the best husband & father, and man. I witnessed this all the time & he never ever fell short to make everyone feel so cared for and make everyone laugh. I know you’re playing so much golf up there with a Bud Light in hand, and I am so grateful to have known you. Rest easy, Jamie ❤️"

His loved ones are also rallying in other ways. A Meal Train fundraiser had raised more than $10,000 as of Monday, Sept. 15 — more than four times its original goal.

Dozens of community members have signed up to deliver food to the Nickerson's family through November 21.

Visitation for Jamie Nickerson is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels. His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the same location.
