Frankey Wright Jr., 19, was with his girlfriend at the Forest Hills Station in Jamaica Plain Saturday afternoon, Aug. 29, when she lost her balance and fell off the platform and into the "right of way" area of the rail, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority said. Wright attempted to help her back up, but he also fell, landing on the electrified third rail.
Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene. Paramedics took his 19-year-old girlfriend to an area hospital, where she was in critical condition on Monday, authorities said.
“This appears to be a horrific tragedy, and on behalf of the Transit Police Department and the entire MBTA organization, we express our most sincere condolences to the decedent’s family and friends,” the MBTA said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Wright's father, Frankey Wright Sr., told Boston 25 that the couple was on their way to the annual Caribbean Festival at Franklin Park in Boston.
A GoFundMe created to help pay for his funeral has raised more than $7,000 as of Monday afternoon.
His loss has left a deep hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. Frankey leaves behind parents, siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews who are now grieving an unimaginable loss. Those closest to him will always remember Frankey as a noble boy with a big heart, someone who put others before himself even in his final moments.
