Troy Gray, 60, of Easthampton, who previously pleaded guilty to eight counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, was sentenced on Thursday, Oct. 15, the Northwestern District Attorney said. Judge Tracy Duncan also ordered 10 years of supervised probation after his release.

Gray assaulted the children while working as a paraeducator at Mountain View School in Easthampton between November 2022 and November 2023. He worked in two elementary classrooms during that time.

Easthampton police found that Gray repeatedly touched the students’ private areas, the prosecutor said.

Along with indecent assault and battery, Gray also admitted to one count each of aggravated intimidation of a witness and annoying and accosting another person, authorities said.

Prosecutors and Gray’s defense attorney, Colin Keefe of Greenfield, jointly recommended the sentence.

“We commend both survivors for their extraordinary bravery in coming forward and disclosing what happened to them,” said Assistant District Attorney Lori Odierna, chief of the Northwestern District Attorney Office’s Child Protection Unit.

The guilty plea means the children will not have to testify at trial, Odierna said.

After prison, Gray must register as a sex offender, complete sex offender treatment and wear a GPS monitor, the judge ruled.

His probation terms bar him from unsupervised contact with anyone under 18. He also cannot live, work, or stay overnight with minors. He must avoid all contact with the survivors and their immediate families.

Odierna and Assistant District Attorney Andrew Covington prosecuted the case. Family Service Advocate Sonia Serrazina helped the children and their families throughout the proceedings.

Covington credited Easthampton police, particularly Detective Lieutenant Eric Alexander, for the investigation that led to Gray’s conviction.
