Kevin Lawlor, 48, of Derby, was arrested Thursday, July 23, on charges including conspiracy to commit third-degree arson and conspiracy to commit third-degree criminal mischief, according to Connecticut State Police.
The new charges stem from an incident on July 17, two days after a fight at Cadillac Ranch in Southington, where a man was shot, and another was beaten.
According to an arrest warrant, someone threw a smoke bomb through a garage window at Bully Baggerz & Son on Plainfield Road in Griswold. Investigators determined the device was an M-class explosive.
Police said surveillance video showed a reddish-orange Hyundai Kona leaving the area with a paper bag covering its license plate. The SUV was later captured by a Flock traffic camera with a Florida plate registered to one of the people arrested in the Cadillac Ranch case. Their name was redacted in the warrant.
A witness later told investigators she saw two men arrive at a restaurant in the same vehicle on the day of the bombing and recognized one of them as Lawlor, according to the warrant.
Lawlor was already among four men charged with interfering with police following the July 15 confrontation. Four other men, whom police said were associated with the Diablos Motorcycle Club, are charged with assaulting the business owner.
The 44-year-old owner of Bully Baggerz & Son told police the fight began after he spotted a former customer who was unhappy with work done on his Harley-Davidson seven years earlier and wanted a refund.
According to the police report, a group of men attacked him, striking him with what "felt like a hammer" while trying to take his clothes, jewelry, and Glock handgun.
During the struggle, the gun discharged, striking a 25-year-old man wearing a Diablos Motorcycle Club vest, police said. Investigators have not determined who fired the weapon.
Police said the business owner reported that his Glock was taken during the attack. Officers later recovered a firearm at the scene. Workers at Bully Baggerz & Son declined to comment this week.
