The Cross Sound Ferry from New London, CT to Orient, NY cancelled departures at 6:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. from Connecticut, the service announced.
Additionally, trips scheduled to depart Orient at 8:00 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. were called off. However, other trips remained on the schedule, according to the ferry service.
Several other Cross Sound Ferry trips on Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26 have also been canceled. To view the full announcement, click here.
The also-popular Bridgeport to Port Jefferson Ferry had not canceled any trips for Thursday, but schedule adjustments loomed as the storm approached the region.
The National Weather Service issued a Gale Warning for all of Long Island Sound beginning Thursday morning and extending into Friday evening. Additionally, forecasters have issued a flood watch for southern Nassau County, on the other side of the island.
“The high tide cycles of most concern continue to look like Friday evening and Saturday morning,” forecasters wrote. “This looks to be a widespread solid minor, locally moderate flooding situation for most areas. For southern Nassau, there was high enough confidence in a widespread moderate flood event to issue a Coastal Flood Watch.”
