Christopher Carlson, 48, of Patchogue, was piloting his 2004 30-foot Grady-White boat in the Great South Bay near Sayville around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, the Suffolk County Police Department said.
Carlson struck an object in the water and called 911 to report his boat was sinking, authorities said. SCPD’s Marine Bureau arrived on scene and removed Carlson from the boat, cops said. No one else was on board.
But investigators quickly determined Carlson was drunk, and he was charged with operating a vessel while intoxicated, police said. His arraignment was set for Wednesday, Aug. 26.
