Charles Fullenwiley, of Waterbury, died Sunday night, March 8, at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution from metastatic colon cancer, according to CT Insider, citing state officials.
Fullenwiley had several serious health problems, authorities said. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Monday and found he also suffered from emphysema and other serious health issues.
Connecticut State Police were called to the prison just before 9 p.m. Sunday after Fullenwiley became unresponsive. The physician at MacDougall-Walker pronounced him dead about an hour later, the report continued.
State police are investigating, as is required by state law, but foul play is not suspected.
Fullenwiley was sentenced to more than 50 years behind bars in 2006.
