A Palisades Interstate Parkway police officer discovered a vehicle containing personal belongings parked near the cliff around 2:45 a.m. Sunday, June 14, according to the source.
Emergency crews were called to the scene, including members of the East Bergen Rappel Team, who assisted in recovering the body of a man in his 30s who is believed to have jumped.
The Alpine Fire Department said the scene was cleared at approximately 7 a.m.
The East Bergen Rappel and High Angle Rescue Team is made up of technical rescue specialists from the Closter EMS, Cliffside Park, Edgewater, Englewood Cliffs, Fairview, Fort Lee, and Ridgefield fire departments.
