Garbage Truck Backs Into Cape May Building, Firefighters Prevent Porch Collapse
A garbage truck crashed into a building in Cape May and nearly caused outdoor porches to collapse, authorities said. The Cape May Fire Department responded to the crash on Decatur Street at around 12:46 p.m. on Monday, May 13, the city's firefighters union said in a Facebook post. Crews found the garbage truck backed into the building and hit a utility pole. Photos showed damage to a support column on the first-floor porch and the building was evacuated. A 22-year-old was killed in a two-vehicle crash on a busy Long Island roadway. The incident happened around 4:15 p.m. Monday, May 13 in Commack. Suffolk County Police said a 51-year-old Hauppauge woman was driving a 2020 Volkswagen westbound on Jericho Turnpike when she attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot at 6070 Jericho Turnpike and collided with a 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle.
