Workers Gassed By Their Own Employer During Protest In Oakland, Lawsuit Says
Five New Jersey employees say they were gassed by their own employer while picketing at an industrial facility, twice in two states, according to a lawsuit filed in Bergen County Superior Court this week.
The plaintiffs, all employees of Airgas USA, LLC and members of Local 701 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT), allege in court papers filed Wednesday, Aug. 6, that they were “engaged in lawful and peaceful picketing activity” outside Airgas locations in Oakland, NJ and Peoria, IL in July when they were engulfed by an unknown chemical plume.

‘Disregard For Rules’ Closes Hawthorne Pool After Bacteria Spike, Officials Say
Hawthorne’s public pool has been shut down after high levels of bacteria were found in both pools, borough officials said.
The closure was announced Wednesday, June 25, and is expected to last through Thursday, June 26, officials said in a notice posted by the Hawthorne Municipal Pool.
“Due to required bacteriological testing requirements and positive test results for high levels of bacteria, the pool will be closed today, Wednesday, June 25 and most likely tomorrow, Thursday, June 26,” the notice says.
Officials blame the spike in bacteria on a pattern of rule-breaking by pool-goers.
