A 23-year-old roofer was killed in Egg Harbor Township on the afternoon of Tuesday, Jan. 28, after a slab of concrete collapsed on him, authorities said. A worker who was injured at a construction site in Westchester had to be carefully rescued by crane, fire officials said. The incident happened on Wednesday, Feb. 14 in White Plains, when a worker suffered an injury on the top deck of a construction site at 200 Hamilton Ave., according to White Plains fire officials. To get the worker safely down to ground level, rescue crews used an emergency personnel bucket with a crane to lower them down. A man was critically injured after a forklift overturned while he was working at a construction site in Jersey City on Monday morning, Sept. 11, authorities said. The incident occurred at 425 Summit Avenue at 8:09 a.m., Kimberly Wallace-Scalfione, a spokeswoman for the mayor's office said. The man was removed the site and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, Wallace-Scalfione said. The victim was employed by L&W Supplies, a spokesman for OSHA said. OSHA said it has six months to conduct an investigation and release its findings.

A construction worker from Elizabeth was rescued Tuesday after he fell 15 feet into a job site trench in Bergenfield, authorities said. Bergenfield firefighters, assisted by their colleagues from Hackensack, hoisted the 39-year worker up from the foundation of the South Prospect Street site after he lost his balance and fell in shortly before 1:30 p.m., Detective Lt. A worker suffered a gruesome arm injury at a Long Island food company. It happened on Friday, Nov. 8 just before 1 p.m. in Hicksville. A Rockland trash hauler had part of his finger chopped off by a truck compactor on a Norwood street Wednesday afternoon -- then walked nearly a mile in the scorching heat before finding police who helped get him to the hospital.
